Ph.D Programme

The Department welcomes students who are interested to pursue a Ph.D in the disciplines of Economics, English & Fine Arts, Psychology and Sociology. The programme is divided into two parts: coursework and dissertation writing. The coursework part is composed of four Pre-Ph.D courses of four credits each. Students will have to complete these courses in the first year of their joining the Ph.D programme.

M.Sc. in Economics

The programme will be of particular interest if one envisages a career which calls for advanced analytical skills, draws on advanced knowledge of economics, and shall ensure exposure to contemporary and emerging economic policy issues at the national and international levels. The programme will open a wide range of career options for students in different roles (policy analysts, advisors, researchers, consultants, etc.).

BS-MS (Economics)

This five year programme will give students a rigorous training in the core areas of economics to make them proficient in the latest analytical and quantitative techniques. Students will also receive a firm grounding in mathematical and econometric techniques, microeconomics and macroeconomics, including their application to economic problems.

Admissions to Programmes

The department welcomes applications from motivated students to its academic programmes. Prospective students can follow announcements by the Institute for admissions ↗, and be acquainted of the procedures.

Doctoral

The department opens for intake of Ph.D students twice every year: Autumn session, and Spring session. Selection is conducted after interviews with a merit-based pool of GATE and NET JRF qualified applicants. Reservation of seats will be according to the norms of the Government of India. Postgraduate

The department opens for intake of postgraduate students once every year: Autumn session. Admission to the two years M.Sc. in Economics programme is conducted via the Joint Admission test for Masters (JAM). Check JAM website for exam questions pattern, procedures and important dates. Students with a Bachelor's degree are eligible to apply. Candidates appearing for their final degree examination shall also be eligible to appear for the admission tests. However, their admission will be provisional and subject to securing first division in their Bachelor's degree examination. Please note that eligibility does not guarantee admission to the program. Admission will be based on the merit of the candidate in the JAM examination followed by an interview. Reservation of seats will be according to the norms of the Government of India.

Undergraduate

The department opens for intake of undergraduate students once every year: Autumn session. Admission of 10+2 qualified students to the BS-MS (Economics) five year programme is conducted via the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced). Check JEE website for latest updates and application procedures.
